Night Travel

Night travel have always attracted me, night travel doesn’t mean the night travel to reach a different city altogether, but night travel in city buses where you can enjoy a lot of things like, peaceful bus commuting without any mad crowd, cool breeze from the ever entertaining darkness outside, speed, yes we all have to accept that once in a while we just want to live that moment, without worrying about “Speed thrills but kills”, though being careful is absolutely necessary.

I have always been lucky, for I have got a lot of opportunities right from my childhood to travel by late night buses. During my early childhood, we used to live in a place which was about 15 kms away from the city centre, and was connected by a single road, a state highway. During those days, I just used to sit beside the window and enjoy the cool breeze/wind from outside hitting on my face along with my cool bro, who used to like that, still acted as though he is a “Big brother”.

Then came the days of high school, when I used to travel to school by public buses only. During those days, I couldn’t actually travel much during night by late night buses except very rare cases. Then came by std 10^th tuitions, when I was traveling easily about 20 kms one way to attend tuitions, I just loved it. Evening, I used to start and reach the tuition centre by late evening and attend an hour of tuitions 5 days a week. And then came the most exciting part of that day … yes … traveling. Used to commute by again a state highway, which most of the time had very scanty traffic. As again, I used to live my childhood days again sitting beside the window and enjoying the whole “ride” till I reached home, and on the way studying. Yes, I used to study on the bus as I used up 3-4 hrs of my day in commuting from the tuition centre and back.

Then, during Pre-University ( 11^th and 12^th days), I hardly used to enjoy the commute back as I used to travel from a centre of the city to my locality and most of the time, the buses were hardly empty, it used to be crowded and I really couldn’t enjoy the travel.

Then during my Graduation days, the only time I used to do night traveling was when I used to attend “Placement written tests” and return home by 9-9:30. So again, it was hardly enjoyable, as either I would be worrying what to study, if I had got selected for the next rounds of interview or I will be thinking why I didn’t get through, except for once, when I can cleared both the written test as well as the interview. Only on that occasion I really loved every minute till I reached home and handed over my offer letter to my mom and saw the smile on her face and felt satisfied for all the efforts I had put till that day in my life.

From past few weeks, I am “forced” to travel by night public buses once in a while, as there is a release nearing and I am slogging towards it. I live every moment when I am traveling, that too the road happens to be the ring road and bus driver makes sure he touches 70-80Kmph, though this might seem to be a small thing for two and four wheelers, but to hit 70 or 80 on a six wheeler and at the same time hearing the whole bus wobbling every nook and corner as its moving at that speed is altogether a different experience. I was so thrilled that I took a few pics and just enjoyed the commute.

I really don’t know whether I will be getting this chance again and again but wanted to make the feel immortal, so decided to publish a blog post about it and here it is.

After a long time .. I really felt good watching a refreshing movie .. with a simple story and told in perfect way with exact situations as we see in real life ..

Raaman theDiya seethai, is a simple story of a man , Venu, played by Cheran and his travels and travails he faces in finding a bride for himself. The movie opens with a mentally retarded boy in a mental rehab asylum, getting treated, its after a few minutes we are revealed that it was actually the character played by Cheran, who was inside the asylum, due to acute stress which he faces mental exertion during his school days and gets admitted to the rehab to get treated. He comes out completely cured but for a small stammering problem, which he does whenever he is under stress or exertion, this is revealed as he tells his story to the first 'bride-to-be' Ranjita(Vimala Raman), and but natually she rejects him as she feels odd about his past.

Thus starts the story of a man, a very simple one, with a pure heart, a 'Raaman' in short in search of his life partner, his seethai, who will understand him well and feels that must know about his past before taking a decision on their combined future. So, the first he does when he meets a prospective bride, is to give his certificates, informing her his studious boyhood and then tells her that he had got treated for 8 months in a mental rehab. The director ( actually a director-duo, Cheran and Jeganji), then informs us that he is being rejected by umpteen number of prospective brides when they come to know about his past.

Everything seems as usual for Venu, brides keeping rejecting him but for one girl, Vidya played by Ramya Nabeesan, accepts him and the marriage preps go on. But on the marriage day, she elopes away with her lover leaving Venu devastated. Vidya's dad, Manikyavel, played by Manivannan, feels sad for Venu and takes up the moral responsibility of finding a bride for Venu.

One day after this incident he meets Nedumaran, played by Pasupathy, who infuses new hope into Venu by telling his own story, that how he being a blind man, is a confident husband, father, and works in a FM station and leads a happy life.

Then one day, Venu goes to Nagercoil along with Manikyavel, the same place where he met his alliance, to see another bride. When he is roaming the streets in nagercoil, he chances upon to see Vidya, but now she isnt rich as she used to be, but lives in a small house, her husband jailed, and she is pregnant too with her first child and doesnt have the money for the delivery. Venu helps her without informing her father who is right there in the same city. Here, again he accidentally chances upon Ranjita, who works in a hospital.

We are then introduced to Gayathri, played by Karthika, the girl for whom he came to see in nagercoil and her story, a very hilarious one, where Nithin Satya makes a refreshing mark!!

The rest of the story is who will finally Venu marry.

Speaking about casting, Author-backed role for Cheran, flawlessly essays the role meant for him. Pasupathy, as a blind man working as a RJ goes into the role very well, making all the facial expressions as made by a blind man and use his previous real life experience for the RJ role. Nithin Satya is truely one we have to look out for, plays his role of a thief and then a reformed thief with utmost ease. His body language is just perfect for his role. All the ladies in the story, though have a strong effect on the story, doesnt make much on the screen. We surely can see few of them, or most of them slowly grow into main stream actresses. Direction by Cheran-Jeganji combo is very good. But we can surely make out which portions of the movie was shot by Cheran, with his trademark sentimental handling and the part which was handled by Jeganji, infusing comic relief, like the Nithin Sathya part to the other very 'Cheran' movie.

All in all a very good family entertainer.
