After a long time, i was really blessed to see an amazing hindi movie sans Big stars, huge sets, huge troops for songs and huge budget and yet very heart touching, soul stirring, thought provoking movie ---- AAMIR.
The movie starts with how a doctor returning from UK, initially finds himself in the cozy comfortable atmosphere of a Air India Flight, and from there gets to see how Muslim doctors returning from UK are getting treated here in India by their "own country's" people and then goes through a roller coaster ride through out the day till the unforeseen happens. This reminds us about a the news a few months back about Indian doctors abroad getting involved in terrorist activities.
Initially, when you see the "man on the phone", speaks to the protogonist about the state of people here in India, you suddenly feel that 'OK, this film speaks about the state of people in India and wants to educate people in and coming from abroad, how they owe a lot to the country which gave them education and help them become a "valuable" person for the world'.
Then you see Aamir, actually getting out of the taxi and resolving the traffic jam within few minutes and you again feel, its about educating people about the state and problems faced in India and how sitting in an AC vehicle doesn't help and you have get down on your feet to solve any small or big problem faced by the country and the society today. And in the same frame see other people just looking at him and thinking 'whats the need for him to get down and solve this problem?'.
Then you see he meets a person, who gives a suitcase and the 'Man on the fone' tell him that the suitcase has bomb in it and he has the guts to open it and sees only lots of cash in it, then you realize, even you would have done the same when you were faced with a situation where you are being asked to do, something which you do not have any relation to, yet being forced to do.
Then in the climax, how he decides that lives of thousands is more important than his or his family, this is surely the best climax for years to come in the subject like this. Suddenly you are spellbound and really dont know what to say...
The film actually reveals what we see through our eyes is not what the actual fact is, but what we perceve it to be through our blunt thoughts and thinking. The character lives up to the name given to it, AAMIR - meaning leader. Bombay provides the best picturesque location for such a plot.
Top notch acting by Rajeev Khandelwal, who moved from Small screen to Big screen for good, and shows that he is no less in acting when compared to the top actors in bollywood. Background score is just great matches the tempo, speed and the mood of the film. Great debut for Raj Kumar Gupta as a director unlike many others, who usually take up perfect Masala story with song and dance sequences, one item number, a cameo by a high paid actor and foot tapping music. Hope the director continues to give us more and more movies which are so thought provoking as Aamir.
Great work --- Kaun kehta hai aadmi apni kismat khud Likhta hai ?..... AAMIR
